crate training
WHY SHOULD I CRATE TRAIN MY PUPPY?
*My puppy will have a place to feel safe and secure
*If I have to leave my puppy unattended, there will not be costly damage due to
destructive behavior.
*When traveling, my puppy will have a “home away from home”
*If I have to board my puppy, he or she will be comfortable with confinement.
*My puppy will be less likely to develop inappropriate behavior making him or her a
better pet.
Wild dogs and wolves often sleep in dens. This is a place where they feel secure and at ease. Domestic dogs have this characteristic as well. For this reason, crates are an excellent way to house train your new puppy and will come in handy as your dog grows into an adult.
HOW BIG SHOULD THE CRATE BE?
When choosing a crate, make sure that it is big enough for an adult dog to stand up, turn around, and lay down comfortably.
WHERE SHOULD WE PUT THE CRATE?
The crate should be kept in a place where the family spends a lot of time. Usually kitchens, family rooms or bedrooms work the best. Make sure the crate is in a room where the temperature is comfortable and do not put the crate in direct sun.
WHAT SHOULD WE PUT IN THE CRATE?
A blanket or pillow for the puppy to sleep on.
